About MTD Match

Last updated 30 October 2026

MTD Match explains Making Tax Digital for Income Tax in plain English, trade by trade, and introduces sole traders and landlords who want help to up to 3 qualified UK accountants.

Why we exist

From April 2026, and for many more people from April 2027, HMRC’s Making Tax Digital rules mean keeping digital records and sending quarterly updates. Most of the people affected – barbers, cleaners, builders, drivers, landlords – have never needed an accountant’s vocabulary. Our guides translate their working week into the terms HMRC uses, and our 60-second check tells them whether the rules apply and from when.

What we do

How we are paid

The service is free for the public. Accountancy practices on our panel pay us a fee for each introduction (see our lead terms). We share your details only when you ask us to and tick the consent box, and never with more than 3 practices.

Editorial independence

Accountants and software companies cannot pay to change what our guides say or to be mentioned in them. Our guides name HMRC rules and official sources, not products. How we research, check and update each guide is set out on our methodology page.

What we are not

We are not HMRC and not connected with any government body. We are not an accountancy practice and we do not give tax advice: our pages are general information, and the accountants we introduce you to are separate businesses (see our terms of use).
